Your wedding day is one of the most exciting times of your life. Getting to marry your partner is such a special experience to share with your friends and family. One thing almost all couples look forward to after the wedding night is the honeymoon!
Lots of couples plan for their honeymoon right after the wedding is over, but others wait and take the trip a few months after. If the place you are going to has better weather, travel or activities at a different time, you may consider waiting. You may also want to wait to determine when the cheapest time to travel is. Many couples are likely waiting for their honeymoon due to COVID-19.
Whatever you choose to do, planning your honeymoon can seem like another overwhelming part of wedding planning that you need to accomplish. It can actually be a fun experience and doesn’t need to be stressful at all.
Get started early
One thing you definitely don’t want to do when planning your honeymoon is wait until the last minute. Not only will this cause you a lot of last minute stress, but you may end up paying more or planning a trip you may not enjoy as much as if you took more time to plan.
The ideal time to begin booking your honeymoon is about six to eight months prior to your travel dates. This is especially important if you are planning on any European destinations that may coincide with the summer travel season.
With very far away destinations or ones with a short peak travel season, you may want to start planning and booking even earlier. Consider doing your research and booking about a year in advance for locations that are far off.
Budgeting
Just like with planning the wedding day and wedding night, it is important to set a strict budget for your honeymoon and be sure you stick to it. Figure out what you can afford and how much you want to put towards your honeymoon and begin planning from there.
A great way to start planning with your budget in mind is to make a list of your priorities. Both you and your partner should decide which parts of the trip are non-negotiable for you. This could include the type of hotel you stay at, what types of activities you do, excursions or money for souvenirs.
Another way you can work to save some money and be sure you are staying within budget is to hire a travel agent. Though that may seem like it will cost you more money, they can save you money in the long run. They know where you can cut costs and can work with your priorities to figure out what to cut and what to keep!
All-inclusive
If you are a couple that doesn’t do very well when it comes to sticking to a budget, booking an all-inclusive honeymoon may be the way to go. This is a great way to be sure that you are not overspending because everything is paid for with a flat fee. This usually includes airport transfers, room, meals, drinks and taxes. There is very little you will have to pay for outside of the one time fee, which means less chances for you to make an impulsive splurge.
