Summer weddings have their perks, such as gorgeous backdrops for wedding photos, summer blooms and you’re more likely to receive “yes” RSVPs. However, too much heat could be a source of discomfort for you and your guests. While planning your outdoor wedding for the summer, consider these ways to beat the heat!
Dress accordingly
When choosing wedding attire for both the bride and groom, as well as bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s attire, consider the temperature. Think light and loose. For example, you can dress your bridesmaids in short dresses with their hair up. That way, nobody looks sweaty in your photos. Remind your guests that part or all of the wedding is outdoors. Wear sunscreen and remind your guests to do the same.
Offer refreshments and wedding favors
Your cocktail hour will have refreshments, but since it’s after the wedding ceremony, you’ll want to offer refreshments before. You don’t need any fancy drinks yet, consider giving guests a cold bottle of water. Keeping your guests hydrated will keep them comfortable. You can also consider branding sunglasses, paddle fans, water misters and hair scrunchies to keep your guests even more comfortable.
Provide shaded areas
Shade is also very important. A tent that covers your seating area and/or reception area is a good idea. It can help prevent the sun from getting in the way of any views of the ceremony and keep you cooler during the reception.
Plan the menu correspondingly
When coming in from a hot wedding, whether to a tent with fans or an air-conditioned space, you won’t necessarily want to serve a hot meal. Think of serving foods such as shrimp appetizers and grilled chicken or fish entrees with lemonade and iced tea. Have lots of ice-cold beverages, and remember to provide non-alcoholic beverages along with your signature cocktail. You could also have a dessert bar with popsicles or create your own ice cream sundae or snow cones.
